Although it has been on the market since 2015, Olympus still manages to excite many photographers with the fast super wide-angle zoom 7-14mm F2.8 Pro. We spoke with Kristian Peetz, travel and stock photographer at the stock agency Westend61, and asked him for his opinion on this lens.

How long have you had this Sony lens?
KP: As a travel photographer, a wide angle is one of the lenses that should definitely not be missing from your travel backpack. I've owned the Olympus 7-14 since 2016, when I made the system switch from APS-C to MFT. (Editor's note: more about the different systems can be found here)

How do you use the lens most often?
KP: As the name implies, the most outstanding feature of a wide-angle lens is that you can capture a lot of the surroundings despite the short distance. Thus, it is the ideal instrument or lens to photograph landscapes and wide scenes, but also to create extraordinary perspectives.
FC:
From your point of view, what are the strengths and weaknesses of this lens?
KP: The 7-14 stands out in particular for its high image quality and sharpness right to the edges (see the 100% crops below). Plus a small size / weight and the extraordinary weather resistance! No matter where/when I used it, the results were always good. Sure, as with any wide-angle, you have to be careful how you position the light to avoid flares... if you want to avoid them at all - but you can also deliberately introduce them as an element of style.

Would you recommend this lens to others?
KP: A wide-angle lens basically opens up a whole new set of possibilities for creating images - and the Olympus 7-14 is an excellent lens! I can only recommend!
