Macro photography opens our eyes to a fascinating world that we easily overlook in everyday life - the many small things around us that we otherwise pay little attention to. In this blog post we give you a few tips for strong macro photos. <\/p>\n\n

What equipment?<\/h2>\n\n

In addition to a camera and a macro lens, you will need a tripod, macro flash and, if necessary, a focus slider. A few tips for choosing\/purchasing the right equipment and its possible uses: <\/p>\n\n

Macro lens:<\/strong> A macro lens is essential as it has an extremely short focusing distance. It enables you to take sharp shots even from a very short distance from the subject. Macro lenses usually have a focal length of 50 to 200mm; this allows flexibility in the composition of the image section. <\/p>\n\n

Tripod:<\/strong> Due to the extreme close-up distance, a tripod is almost always required in macro photography to avoid camera shake and therefore blurring in the image. A stable tripod not only makes it easier to align the camera precisely. It also allows shots with a small aperture and longer exposure times; this achieves more depth of field (more on this in the next section).<\/p>\n\n

Macro flash:<\/strong> A special macro flash produces a soft, diffuse light. This avoids the hard shadows that can occur when using flash units with a longer range. This is particularly useful if you are working outdoors or in poor lighting conditions.<\/p>\n\n

Focus slider:<\/strong> A focus slider or macro slider is an accessory that facilitates precise focusing. You can use it to move the camera forwards and backwards with millimeter precision to place the focus point exactly where you want it.<\/p>\n\n

Remote shutter release:<\/strong> To minimize camera shake, a remote or wireless shutter release can be helpful: it allows you to release the shutter without touching the camera directly.<\/p>\n\n

Choosing the right equipment is therefore an important point if you want to get into macro photography. Depending on your photographic goals and your budget, you can also gradually expand your equipment.<\/p>\n\n

Techniques for macro shots<\/h2>\n\n

Macro photography requires patience and precision, but also a certain amount of technical know-how. In this section, we will look at the different techniques you can use to take razor-sharp macro shots. We will explore the importance of tripods and the use of small apertures to extend depth of field. You will also learn how to minimize motion blur and find the perfect focal plane.<\/p>\n\n

Use small apertures:<\/strong> To achieve maximum depth of field, choose small apertures (high f-values such as f\/16 or f\/22). This ensures that more areas of your subject are in sharp focus.<\/p>\n\n

Use a tripod:<\/strong> A tripod is essential in macro photography to prevent camera shake, especially if you are working with small apertures. Make sure it is stable and use a remote release to trigger the camera if necessary.<\/p>\n\n

Manual focusing:<\/strong> In many cases, manual focusing is more precise than autofocus. Use the Live View function on your camera and, if necessary, the focus peaking function to set the focus point precisely.<\/p>\n\n

Finding the correct focal plane:<\/strong> Identifying the correct focal plane can be tricky. Experiment by slowly moving the camera towards or away from the scene to focus on the desired area of your subject.<\/p>\n\n

Focus stacking:<\/strong> At extreme close-up distances, the depth of field can be very shallow. A technique called focus stacking makes it possible to take several shots of the same subject that differ only in the placement of the focus point. The images from this exposure series are then combined into a single image in post-production. This allows an impressive depth of field to be achieved in the combined shot.<\/p>\n\n \n\n
